Saudi Arabia Will Allow The Sale Of Alcohol

For the first time in 74 years.

Saudi Arabia will allow the controlled sale and consumption of alcohol in 2026.

This change is part of the country's preparations for international events including Expo 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, reports The Economic Times.

The sale of beer, wine and cider will be allowed in clearly defined locations. Stronger alcoholic drinks will continue to be banned. The government will not allow alcohol to be consumed in homes, stores or public places. The personal production of alcohol will also remain prohibited.

Only licensed establishments with specially trained staff will be allowed to sell alcohol - in hotels, resorts and tourist areas.

"The sale of alcohol will follow established procedures. These rules are tailored to the country's customs and standards," the publication wrote.

The new alcohol policy is part of the Vision 2030 strategy, Saudi Arabia's national plan for economic development. It aims to expand tourism, entertainment and hospitality. Authorities believe such changes will help create jobs and attract foreign investment.
