The numbers are impressive.
Residents of Belarus, "not employed in the economy," are massively summoned to the police for preventive conversations. In Homel, official resources, referring to the police, have named the number of citizens from two districts of the regional center, which the authorities have listed as "deadbeats," noted "Flagstaff".
In the Soviet district of Homel, the most numerous, about 10 thousand "deadbeats" were counted as of May 1, 2025. According to the latest published data, 156.7 thousand people live in this district. On average, the working age population (including women on maternity leave and people with disabilities) makes up 61.6% of the total population. It follows that the able-bodied population of the district is 96.5 thousand people.
10 thousand is 10.3% of the total working-age population of the district.
The official number of "slackers" in the Central district of Homel - more than 6 thousand people - was also mentioned earlier. According to the calculations of "Flagstaff", among the able-bodied population of the Central district "deadbeats" make up about 8.6% (the population of the district is 113.6 thousand people, of which about 70 thousand are able-bodied).
There is no information about the number of "deadbeats" in Zheleznodorozhny and Novobelitsky districts. But if we take the average share of "not employed in the economy" in Gomel as 9%, it turns out that the authorities consider about 27.8 thousand Gomel residents to be "deadbeats".
