Media: Ukraine's Ex-defense Minister May Not Be Appointed Ambassador To The United States
Rustem Umerov

Umerov will have a different task.

As of the morning of July 17, the most likely candidate for the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States is acting Justice Minister Olha Stefanyshyna. Kiev is waiting for a preliminary reaction to her candidacy from the US side.

According to informed sources RBC-Ukraine.

According to the source, the acting head of the Defense Ministry, Rustem Yatsenyuk, is the most likely candidate for the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States. Defense Ministry head Rustem Umerov, who was previously named the main contender for the post of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, may focus specifically on the role of negotiator, as he remains the head of the negotiating group with the Russians within the Istanbul format.

Separately, it is worth adding that it is likely that, in general, the appointment of Ukraine's new ambassador to the United States will take some time due to the passage of all necessary procedures. Meanwhile, Stefanyshina noted in her Facebook page that the next few months "will devote more time to her family."

We would like to recall that earlier Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Defense Minister Rustem Umerov may be appointed as the new ambassador to the United States instead of the current Oksana Markarova. This would entail a serious reshuffle in the Cabinet of Ministers.
