Yermak: Trump Could End The War In Ukraine By The End Of The Year
Andriy Yermak

The U.S. president's plan will work.

U.S. President Donald Trump could end the war in Ukraine by the end of 2025.

The head of the Office of the President Andrew Yermack said so, according to The Times.

In an interview on The Times' "The General and The Journalist" podcast, Yermack said that only economic concerns can really put the squeeze on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and make him realize that continuing this war is costing him too much.

In Yermack's view, Trump could actually end the war in Ukraine "by the end of this year" if he follows through on his threat to impose significant new sanctions on anyone who buys Russian oil and gas.

A Ukrainian presidential adviser to Vladimir Zelensky said the threat of secondary sanctions would work because it would also pressure China and India - Russia's two largest importers of fossil fuels - to push for a deal to avoid their own new trade wars with the White House.

"These new sanctions from the United States are so important because, unfortunately, all this year the price of oil has enabled it to finance its war machine," Yermak said.

Note that now, under Trump's plan, if peace is not made in Ukraine in 50 days, duties of 100 percent will be levied on goods imported into the United States from any country that imports any goods from Russia.

"They (sanctions, ed.) will create very strong pressure on Putin and he will lose a huge amount of money. And the countries that buy Russian oil will also put pressure on him," Yermak summarized.
