Ex-president Of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan Has Been Indicted

Former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has been charged with bribery and illegal participation in business activities, Armenpress reports.
The criminal case is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee.
According to the investigation, Sargsyan, between 2000 and 2018, while successively holding the posts of defense minister, prime minister and president of Armenia, engaged in business activities against the legal prohibition. It is alleged that he used his official position to establish and manage commercial companies through proxies.
According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, Sargsyan involved a certain M. B. and structures belonging to him in establishing a bitumen plant in Surenavan community of Ararat region. For this purpose, a company was established in which M. B.'s structures received 50% and two Russian companies another 50%. Subsequently, Sargsyan allegedly demanded that M. B. transfer as a bribe 22.5% of his shares in the new company, which was founded by a relative of the politician.
