Macron Told Mertz About His Call To Putin

The German Chancellor is not going to call the Russian dictator.

The German government says French President Emmanuel Macron has informed Chancellor Friedrich Merz of his call to Kremlin ruler Putin.

German government spokesman Stephan Cornelius was quoted by n-tv.

Cornelius said the key topic of Macron's conversation with Putin was Iran's nuclear program.

"We were informed by the French side and after the conversation we were informed of the results," the spokesman said.

Merz is not yet planning a phone conversation with Putin, he added.

The Kremlin said Tuesday night that Putin and Macron discussed the escalation in the Middle East and Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
