Iran And Three European Countries To Hold Nuclear Talks

Britain, France and Germany expect Tehran to make concessions.

Iran, Britain, France and Germany will hold nuclear talks in Turkey's Istanbul on Friday, July 25.

A spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry said this on Monday, July 21, Reuters reported.

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said the meeting between his country, Britain, France and Germany would take place at the level of deputy foreign ministers.

The talks, scheduled for Friday, July 25, come after the three countries' foreign ministers held their first telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on July 17 since Israel and the United States attacked Iranian nuclear facilities a month ago.

The troika countries are known to have said they will renew sanctions against Tehran by the end of August if nuclear talks, which had been ongoing between Iran and the US before the direct conflict between Israel and Iran began, do not resume or fail to produce concrete results.

Before the escalation between Israel and Iran, Tehran and Washington held five rounds of nuclear talks mediated by Oman, but faced serious obstacles, such as Iran's uranium enrichment, which Western states want to reduce to zero.

Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only.

After Israeli and U.S. strikes on its nuclear facilities, Iran abandoned any nuclear talks with the U.S. side.
