In Estonia, A Russian From Narva Was Sent To Prison For Espionage

He provided the FSB with data and helped circumvent sanctions.

In Estonia, Viru County Court found a Russian citizen living in Narva guilty of spying against Estonia and sentenced him to six and a half years in prison, ERR reported.

The Public Prosecutor's Office accused Pavel Kapustin of intelligence activities against and aiding the Republic of Estonia, submitting false data to a public authority, and violating sanctions.

The court sentenced him to six and a half years of real imprisonment under a simplified procedure (plea agreement) and, at the request of the prosecutor's office, confiscated property worth almost 90,000 euros.

According to the joint statement of the Prosecutor's Office and the Security Police, Kapustin knowingly established contact with the Russian Federal Security Service, collected and transmitted information and resources to the intelligence service, thus committing acts against the security of Estonia.

In addition to espionage, Kapustin was involved in the transportation of sanctioned goods from Estonia to Russia. Security police found that individuals from Russia ordered luxury goods from him that were subject to sanctions. Kapustin ordered these goods to Narva and then organized their transportation to Russia and handed them over to the customers.

In addition, Kapustin was found guilty of providing false information to the Police and Border Guard Department when applying for a residence permit.

Viru maakohus mõistis Narvas elava Venemaa kodaniku süüdi Eesti-vastases luuretegegevuses ja saatis ta kuueks ja pooleks aastaks vangi.
