The former U.S. president responded.
US President Donald Trump has accused his predecessor Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of "spreading fakes" about Russian interference in the 2016 election.
This is reported by The Guardian.
Trump accused Obama and Clinton of attempting a "coup" and demanded that the individuals in question be prosecuted.
"The U.S. Department of Justice will have to act. The decision will be made by our Justice Secretary," he said.
Obama broke the silence, calling Trump's call "outrageous." The former U.S. president said the Republican is trying to "divert attention."
"Out of respect for the president's administration, we don't usually dignify the constant nonsense and misinformation coming out of the White House with a response. But these claims are so outrageous that they deserve a response. These outlandish allegations are laughable and a feeble attempt at distraction," Obama said.
What preceded
A few days ago, on July 20, U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced the release of documents with alleged evidence of collusion among officials under Obama.
Allegedly, his then-administration disseminated false information about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
