Foreigners Kidnapped A Migrant In Minsk

They brutally tortured him and demanded a ransom.

In Minsk, two foreigners will stand trial on charges of kidnapping and ill-treatment of another migrant. According to the prosecutor's office, they abused the kidnapped man and extorted a large sum of money from his family.

The 29-year-old and 21-year-old men, both foreigners, were detained. The investigation believes that in December 2024, they lured the victim to an apartment in Minsk, promising to help him cross the border to the EU countries illegally. There, they locked the man in the bathroom, threatened to kill him, forced him to undress and began torture.

The victim was beaten with feet, a metal pipe and a stool leg, inflicted at least 13 knife cuts, as well as extinguished cigarettes on him. In total, at least 24 blows were recorded. The violence was accompanied by extortion: the kidnappers demanded 2 million Indian rupees (over 81 thousand rubles at the exchange rate of the National Bank) from him and his mother.

The foreigners are charged under articles on kidnapping and extortion committed by a group of persons with a selfish purpose. They face from 5 to 15 years of imprisonment.
