The plane has been involved in four aviation incidents since 2018.

On Thursday, July 24, an Angara An-24 with 43 passengers on board crashed in the Amur region. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, but it is known that the crashed airplane was very old. It had flown almost the entire service life of 50 years defined by the manufacturer, but continued to carry passengers, as well as other regional airplanes of this model, because in the conditions of sanctions Russian airlines have nothing to replace them. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, these planes began to operate even more, writes "Agencies".

What is known about the crashed plane

An-24 with the tail number RA-47315 was produced in January 1976, according to data from the Russiaplanes portal. The airplane was operated by Aeroflot until 1993. After that it was operated by Nizhny Novgorod Airlines and Izhavia. Angara Airlines became an An-24 operator in 2021.

The crashed An-24 has been involved in four aviation incidents since 2018, Rosaviatsia said. Since 2022, technical faults have been recorded on the plane at least twice, the Agency's analysis shows. In May 2022, the plane's generator failed in flight, and in March this year, during a flight from Irkutsk to Kirensk, the crew requested a return to the parking place due to radio communication problems.

An-24 crashes

Since 2010, there have been three more An-24 crashes with fatalities in Russia. In two cases, the aircraft of Angara Airlines, which owned the An-24 that crashed today, crashed.

In August 2010, an An-24RV of Katekavia crashed while landing at Igarka airport in poor visibility conditions. Eleven people died, only three crew members survived.

In July 2011, an An-24 of Angara Airlines, flying from Tomsk to Surgut, made an emergency landing on the Ob River due to an engine fire. Seven people died.

In June 2019, Angara's An-24 rolled off the runway during a landing in Nizhneangarsk, crashed into a sewage treatment plant and caught fire. Two crew members died and four others were hospitalized.

Too old planes

A quarter of the An-24 and An-26 fleet (about 100 aircraft) should be written off by 2030, Sergei Zorin, first deputy general director of Eastland Group (which includes Angara), told the Federation Council in November 2023. According to him, the "fleet shutdown" should come even earlier - in 2028.

The reason for the accelerated development of the aircraft life Zorin called the redistribution of the volume of work from foreign airliners to Russian ones, the lack of economic feasibility of their overhaul and access to bulletins of Ukrainian production to extend the life of these aircraft

The service life of the An-24 set by the manufacturer is 50 years, but it was extended to 60 years (in the crashed aircraft - until 2036). Moreover, this was done without coordination with the developer - Antonov company, a Russian aviation expert told "Agency" on condition of anonymity. In May this year, the State Research Institute of Civil Aviation ordered certification work to extend the service life from 50 to 60 years for An-26 aircraft of all modifications.

An-24 crash in the Amur region

The An-24 was flying flight 2G 2311 "Khabarovsk-Blagoveshchensk-Tynda". It took off from Khabarovsk at 07.36 local time (00.36 Minsk time). After a technical landing in Blagoveshchensk, the An-24 took to the skies again with a delay of more than two hours, according to data from the Spotterlead service. The plane was supposed to land in Tynda at 13.14, but disappeared from radar a few kilometers from the airport.

The wreckage of the plane and the burning fuselage was found at 15.26 local time 15 km from Tynda. According to Amur Region Governor Vasily Orlov, 43 passengers (including five children) and six crew members were on board. According to preliminary information, no one survived.

SKKK on transport opened a criminal case on violation of the rules of safety of movement and operation of the aircraft. Malfunction and human factor are considered as the main versions of the disaster. Investigators are also considering a version of crew error during landing.
