Lithuania Asks The US To Help Release Its Citizens From Belarusian Prisons

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister talked to Kellogg about it.

Lithuanian diplomats asked U.S. representatives to help release Lithuanian citizens imprisoned in Belarus.

"I can confirm that this was the most important thing we talked about. This is what I started talking about, what are Lithuania's interests, what we want to do to make sure that our citizens are left alone," lrt.lt the words of Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys.

Referring to the visit to Belarus in June of the special envoy of the US President Keith Kellogg and the release of 14 people, including one of the opposition leaders Sergei Tikhanovsky.

Budrys said he spoke with Kellogg and other members of the American delegation both before their departure to Belarus and after their return.

"I will not go into details of the very idea, what our American friends want to do, but a very clear message was conveyed from our side about Lithuania's interests and position. As for our citizens, who are illegally imprisoned in Belarus, they must be released, and we are seeking this," said the head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.
