Gen. Hodges Explained When The Turning Point In The Russian-Ukrainian War Will Come

Russia is not capable of defeating Ukraine.

There are no signs now that the Russian occupiers can break through or break the Ukrainian defenses. This opinion was expressed by former commander of the U.S. Army in Europe General Ben Hodges in an interview with Studio West.

He said Ukraine has already proven it can contain Russia, as the aggressor country controls only 19 percent of Ukrainian territory after 11 and a half years of war.

- The Russian air force avoids flying in Ukrainian airspace, and the Russian Black Sea Fleet has virtually disappeared from the operational arena. Russia has failed to interrupt supplies of equipment and ammunition to Ukraine from Poland. There is no evidence that the Russian army is capable of breaking through or breaking down Ukrainian defenses," Hodges said.

At the same time, the general stressed that Ukraine does not have enough resources right now to dislodge Russia, so without significant external changes, the situation on the front a year from now is likely to be similar to the current one.

- An external factor toward change could be either decisive Western pressure on Russia's ability to export oil and gas to India and China, or the large-scale provision of precision long-range weapons to Ukraine, which could be a major factor in the Russian military's ability to defeat Ukraine. Russia is not capable of defeating Ukraine. All it can do is keep killing Ukrainian civilians, hoping for Western fatigue. I doubt that the Russian economy can withstand several more years of such a war, especially if its energy exports are blocked," he concluded.
