Turkish Foreign Minister: Ukraine And Russia Have Agreed On Zelensky's Meeting With Putin

On Turkish territory.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Ukraine and Russia have generally agreed to hold a meeting between Vladimir Zelensky and Vladimir Putin on Turkish territory. In an interview with NTV, he noted that the agreement was discussed during the third round of talks in Istanbul the previous day. "In principle, an agreement was reached to hold a summit of the leaders (of Ukraine and Russia. - TMT) in Turkey. Negotiating delegations play an important role here," Fidan said. According to him, the sides are showing an eagerness to find a compromise, and if the current momentum is maintained, it is possible to "reach an interim solution."

The foreign minister emphasized that Russia's war against Ukraine has caused serious consequences not only for the region, but also for the whole world. "This is a humanitarian catastrophe - whole cities have been destroyed. At the same time, we are dealing with a conflict capable of escalating into a wider war and deepening international rifts. This is an extremely difficult and costly war that involves everything except nuclear weapons," he added.

The third round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine was held in Istanbul on July 23. The meeting lasted about 40 minutes and brought no tangible results. The only solution was an agreement to continue the exchange of prisoners. Kiev favored a face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Putin before the end of August, but the Russian side said that such a summit was possible only after "a peace agreement is prepared."
