Today Is The Independence Day Of Belarus

On July 27, the Supreme Soviet adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty.

On July 27, 1990 the Supreme Council of Belarus adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty. This important document for our state became the first official step towards independence of Belarus.

The Declaration of State Sovereignty proclaimed "full state sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus as supremacy, independence and completeness of the state power of the republic within the borders of its territory, legitimacy of its laws, independence of the republic in foreign relations".

It was from this day that the countdown of the new history of our country began.

July 27 was declared the Independence Day of Belarus. The new Constitution of the Republic of Belarus was adopted on March 15, 1994.

Official authorities revoked the holiday after a 1996 "referendum" that granted Lukashenko unlimited powers. Independence Day began to be celebrated on the anniversary of Minsk's liberation from Nazi invaders on July 3. The democratic public, as before, celebrates Independence Day on July 27.

Holiday, friends!
