Kremlin Says It Is Not Going To Stop The War In Ukraine

Moscow has no intention of ending the war before Trump's 50-day "ultimatum" expires.

Russia will wage war against Ukraine contrary to the US demands until it achieves all the goals of the "SWO", and this will have to be "fixed". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said this in response to a TASS question about the possibility of resuming diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"First, it is still necessary to settle the problem, and we need to fix the fulfillment of those tasks that were in front of the SWO," he said. At the same time, Peskov said Moscow would like to solve the war's tasks by "political and diplomatic means." "If it is possible to move towards a diplomatic settlement, then this will then go already in the preferred option for us," he argued, adding that Vladimir Putin's announced SWO continues "in conditions when these means have become impossible and all proposals for dialog have been rejected."

Peskov recently made it clear that Moscow has no intention of ending the war before the expiration of US President Donald Trump's 50-day "ultimatum" announced on July 14, which calls for tough sanctions against Russia, including 100 percent import duties on a number of goods. During the third round of Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul on July 23, Kiev proposed a meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents by the end of August. However, Peskov doubted that this was possible, as, according to him, only the signing of a peace treaty is possible at such a meeting.

"A summit meeting can and should set the stage for a settlement and fix the modalities of these agreements, which are to be worked out in the course of expert work. <...> Can such a complex process be accomplished in 30 days? Obviously not likely," he said.

Sources close to the Kremlin told Reuters that Putin is ready for tougher U.S. sanctions and is determined to continue the war until the West agrees to his settlement terms. The Russian president may halt the offensive if all four annexed regions of Ukraine are fully captured and the AFU continues to resist. If the front collapses, however, Putin could launch a major battle for Dnipro, Sumy and Kharkiv.
