Defense Minister Denis Shmygal has said that Ukraine is very close to obtaining its own ballistic missiles. In an interview with BBC, he recalled that the relevant task was set by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

"The Ukrainian president has already announced that Ukraine will have its own ballistics. We are very close to this. This is basically all I can publicly say about this," Shmygal said.

The minister also told how to force the Russians to conduct real peace talks. On the one hand it should be pressure on the battlefield and supplies that will give Ukraine, if not an advantage, then parity. On the other hand, it should be sanctions pressure that will "financially exsanguinate the enemy."

"If these two factors are not in place, the negotiations will probably continue, but more likely we and our partners will be led in circles around this diplomatic negotiating table," the minister said.
