It is true that the USA has spent hundreds of Billions of dollars protecting South Korea with US Troops stationed there since the end of WW2. However South Korea does have its own Army which requires every South Korean male to serve in some fashion. Plus South Korea builds very good tanks and artillery. (They also make nice TVs ).
