Fourth Residential Building Collapsed In Russia In A Week

A house collapsed in Ufa.

A section of a five-story building of the former dormitory of the Bashkir Cooperative Technical School and Bashpotrebsoyuz collapsed in Ufa, the ufa1.ru edition reported. The accident occurred in the evening of July 30 on Kommunisticheskaya Street. The Emergencies Ministry of the region said that there was a "partial collapse of the building wall". Ufa Mayor Ratmir Mavliev, who arrived on the scene, claimed that the structure, recognized as a cultural heritage site, had not been in use for the past year, having been declared an emergency. According to him, no one was injured.

A pre-investigation check is being conducted, it is being handled by employees of the investigative department for the Kirovsky district of Ufa, according to the Investigative Committee of the Investigative Committee for Bashkortostan. Also the verification began in the regional prosecutor's office. Rescuers of the Civil Protection Department of Ufa and other emergency services are working at the site of the collapse. They are engaged in clearing the rubble. For this purpose, the authorities have blocked the Communist Street on the section from Krupskaya Street to Lenin Street. The operation involved 24 people and 11 units of equipment, reported the republican department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The collapsed building was built in 1959, the gas supply in it was cut off, local media reported. According to Telegram channels, the authorities were going to demolish the building, and people were resettled.

This is the fourth collapse in Russian regions this week. On Tuesday, a section of a three-story office building built in 1963 collapsed in Yekaterinburg on Martovskaya Street. Preliminarily, there were no casualties, 12 people managed to leave the building before the arrival of rescuers, 24 more were evacuated, reported the Ministry of Emergency Situations. One of the possible reasons for the collapse is "dilapidation of the structure," noted the head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk region's Main Department of the Interior Ministry Valery Gorelykh.

The day before the collapse collapsed the entrance of an emergency apartment building in Astrakhan, which was supposed to be demolished since April. At least three people were injured. The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on negligence and destruction of property by negligence (part 1, article 293 of the Criminal Code, article 168 of the Criminal Code).

July 25, after a domestic gas explosion, the entrance of a ten-story apartment building in Saratov collapsed. At least seven people died, including one child. Another 18 were injured. A case of rendering services that do not meet safety requirements (Article 238 of the Criminal Code) has been opened.
