Narendra Modi promised to strengthen ties with Ukraine and limit imports of Russian energy.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India remains committed to strengthening ties with Ukraine and calls for a peaceful resolution to the war with Russia. He said this in a message in X after a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
"India remains committed to contributing in every possible way in this direction as well as further strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine," Modi said.
Zelensky, in his Telegram feed, noted Modi's solidarity with the principle that "any affairs concerning Ukraine should be resolved with Ukraine's participation."
The Ukrainian president said in a statement that Modi noted the importance of India limiting its imports of Russian energy, particularly oil, to reduce its potential and ability to finance the continuation of the war.
The two leaders agreed to meet in person at the UN General Assembly in September this year.
