Two Chinese Ships Collided In The South China Sea

They pursued the Philippine ones.

While pursuing a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel, a Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) vessel and a Chinese Navy (PLAN) ship collided in the South China Sea. This was reported by Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Jay Tarriela on social media X on August 11.

According to him, there were two incidents between Chinese and Philippine vessels, in one of which the Chinese vessel used a water cannon against the Philippine vessel MRRV 4406. The incident occurred while escorting Filipino fishermen.

"In the other incident, a Chinese Coast Guard vessel #3104 and a PLAN Navy ship #164 collided," Tarriela wrote.

He said the Chinese Coast Guard cutter "made a risky maneuver" while pursuing the Philippine BRP Suluan, and as a result "sustained significant damage to the bow of the CCG vessel, rendering it unseaworthy."

Tarriela noted that the Philippine Coast Guard assisted the Chinese, including retrieving a man from the water and providing medical assistance to the crew of the collision-hit vessel.

The video released by a PCG spokesman shows the moment the two vessels collided, as well as the moment one of them passed close to the Philippine vessel.

China's state-run Xinhua news agency did not mention the collision of the vessels in a report on the Sino-Philippine maritime conflict near Huangyandao Island (the PRC called it its own).

"The CCG, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, took necessary measures to dislodge several Philippine maritime police vessels and service vessels from territorial waters," the publication said.

The Chinese Coast Guard spokesman said that "all actions of the Chinese side on the spot were professional, standardized and lawful."
