AFU Drones Hit Stavropol's Monocrystal

On the night of Tuesday, August 12, a series of explosions occurred in the Russian city of Stavropol. Unknown drones struck the Monocrystal plant.

The Telegram channel Baza reported that locals heard at least five explosions and saw flashes in the sky above the city. The governor of the Stavropol region Vladimir Vladimirov confirmed the information about the UAV attack on the region. However, the official avoided details.

According to the Telegram channel Astra, one of the targets of the attack was the Monocrystal JSC plant. This plant is one of the world's leading producers of artificial sapphire.

Synthetic sapphire is a component of optical systems, protective elements of sensors and lasers, including in military devices. It is also used in components for aerospace, instrument-making and other high-tech industries, including the military.

The footage from Stavropol shows thick black smoke rising above the plant.

The mayor of Stavropol, Ivan Ulyanchenko, said that at night the city allegedly repelled a UAV attack. The official assures that none of the people were hurt. Glasses in one of the social facilities were broken out. All emergency services of the city are working on the spot. A drone danger regime continues to be in effect throughout the region.
