Zelensky Warned Of The Risk Of A New War In Case Of Refusal To Give Up Donbass

Giving up Donbass will open the way for Putin to Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions.

Ukraine will not abandon Donbass, because any concessions to Russia without reliable security guarantees will only open the way to new aggression and the risk of a "third war".

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said this during a conversation with journalists, "Zerkalo Nedeli".

The head of state said that the Russians' proposals for the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass actually mean only the cessation of their offensive, not the abandonment of the occupied territories. "Their meaning is for us to surrender the region we control in exchange for so-called ceasefire. This is not an equivalent exchange," Zelensky explained.

The President stressed that the enemy realizes the impossibility of capturing Kharkiv and Sumshchyna, and has no forces to hold Kinburn Spit. "They seek only to get Donbass," he emphasized.

Zelensky noted that the withdrawal of the AFU from the region would mean the creation of a bridgehead for further attack, as it happened with Crimea after 2014. According to him, part of the Russian strike force has long been made up of fighters from the occupied territories.

He warned that giving up Donbass would open the way for Putin to Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. "The issue of territories cannot be separated from security guarantees. Otherwise, we actually give the aggressor about 9 thousand square kilometers, which will be the basis for a new war," the president said.

Zelensky noted that during conversations with American representatives, in particular Steve Whitkoff, it became clear: the idea of withdrawal from Donbass comes from Putin, not from the United States. He predicts that the Kremlin will try to exert political and military pressure, and in case of refusal - possible sanctions actions by the US against both sides.

"I am offered: you want not to be killed - get out of the Donetsk region. And what guarantees of security? Will we be in NATO or the EU? So far there have been no concrete proposals," the president emphasized, adding that without reliable guarantees, any concession will only help the enemy to prepare a new offensive.
