The US president warned that if he "doesn't get the answers he wants," there will be no second meeting.
US President Donald Trump has said he would like a trilateral summit - between him, Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky - to take place immediately after his meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
"If the first meeting goes well, I would like to have a second meeting almost immediately between Putin, Zelensky and myself, if they want me there," the White House chief said.
He warned that if he "doesn't get the answers he wants," there will be no second meeting.
When asked whether there would be consequences for Russia if Putin does not agree to a ceasefire on Friday (a summit between the US and Russian presidents in Alaska is scheduled for that day), the American leader said, "There will be very serious consequences."
