The president of the United States is going to push for an unconditional cease-fire.

US President Donald Trump will not discuss the issue of Ukrainian territories with Vladimir Putin at their meeting on August 15. He said this during an online conference on Wednesday with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders, informed sources told NBC News and CNN. According to them, Trump assured that he was going to push for an unconditional ceasefire. At the same time, the head of the White House and European leaders agreed that peace talks can only begin after a ceasefire is established, and Ukraine should be involved in discussing the future of the territories and the terms of peace.

At the same time, some European leaders have the impression that Trump "is not too optimistic about the results of the meeting with Putin," one of the NBC interlocutors said. At the same time, an unnamed official who previously worked in the US presidential administration emphasized in a conversation with CNN that Trump "prefers to keep allies on his side" and that "anything can happen" in a meeting with the Russian president. The online conference also discussed the imposition of new restrictions against Russia and secondary sanctions on Moscow's trading partners if Trump and Putin's talks "don't go smoothly." But the White House head did not make any promises in this regard, NBC writes.

The day before, Trump threatened "very serious consequences" if Putin did not agree to a ceasefire during talks with him. The American leader added that if he "doesn't get the necessary answers" from Putin, the next meeting will not take place. At the same time, if the negotiations are successful, the White House head admitted a trilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which could take place as early as next week.
