Media: Trump Called Norway's Finance Minister To Discuss Nobel Peace Prize

Each year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee selects the laureates from hundreds of nominees.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump unexpectedly called Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg to discuss trade tariffs as well as his pursuit of the Nobel Peace Prize.

This is according to Politico.

Information about the call, as well as questions about the Nobel Peace Prize, was confirmed to the publication by an official in Oslo.

"It is true that President Trump called me a few days before his conversation with Prime Minister Støre. The conversation also involved several of the president's staff, in particular Finance Minister Bessent and Trade Representative Greer," Stoltenberg told the publication.

Every year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee selects the laureates from hundreds of nominees. The five committee members are appointed by the Norwegian parliament in accordance with instructions from 19th-century Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel. Winners are announced annually in Oslo in October.

Few countries, notably Israel, Pakistan and Cambodia, have already nominated Trump for brokering peace agreements or truce since he returned to office in January.
