These include the complete disarmament of Hamas and the return of all hostages.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has named "five key principles" for ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip. His words were reported by Mitri Gendelman, an adviser to the prime minister's office.
"These five principles will ensure Israel's security, this is the true meaning of the word 'victory,'" Netanyahu said.
The "key principles" include "complete disarmament of Hamas," "return of all hostages," "complete demilitarization of the Strip," "Israeli control of security in the Gaza Strip," and "establishment of an alternative civilian government."
Part of the "principles" have been announced previously. In particular, Netanyahu said that Israel does not intend to annex the Gaza Strip after the end of the conflict with Hamas and wants to hand over control of the region to an interim governing body, but will monitor security in the Strip. He also noted that a "security perimeter" would be established after the end of the war so that the region would not pose a threat to Israel.
Peace talks between the sides have stalled. Israel believes Hamas shows no desire for a truce, while Hamas demands an improvement in the humanitarian situation. The Jerusalem Post, citing a source involved in the talks, wrote that Israel and the US could take months to prepare a new deal with the Palestinian group.
