Bloomberg revealed the details.
The operation to prepare the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska turned into a real sprint for the US Secret Service, the task was extremely difficult.
The Bloomberg writes about it, revealing some details of the summit preparation. The agency was tasked with securing both Trump and Putin in the same location and surrounded by its own heavily armed guards.
According to four knowledgeable people, since the summit is being held on U.S. soil, the Secret Service is at liberty to transport weapons, communications and medical equipment without any restrictions. The location, however, poses its own challenges. Anchorage has limited hotel rooms and a small rental car market. In addition, it is the height of the tourist season. Because of this, cars and other equipment are delivered by airplanes or brought from other parts of the state.
"SUV motorcades are arriving from the lower 48 states in cargo planes," Bloomberg writes.
The meeting between Putin and Trump will take place at the Elmendorf-Richardson base, Alaska's largest military base. Airspace is controlled, gates are fortified, and access to military units is instant.
Most of the planning for the meeting is determined by State Department protocol. The rules of reciprocity must reign at a bilateral meeting, the agency's interlocutors said. This means who every sign of attention given to one leader should be equal to the other, Bloomberg writes. Putin's movements will be controlled by the Russian security service, the U.S. Secret Service will maintain external control over the situation.
If 10 American agents are stationed at the entrance to the meeting room, 10 Russian agents will stand on the other side, neither side will open the door to the other and will not use its transportation. According to one of the agency's interlocutors, "everything will be under control: body to body, gun to gun."
Every movement of the two leaders' vehicles has been thought out in detail so that they do not cross paths while remaining under maximum protection.
Simmetry also extends to the placement of interpreters in the hall. Even the number and size of waiting rooms for each leader are being agreed upon. Sources say the Secret Service is still awaiting formal Russian approval of the full security plan.
Bloomberg also reports that hundreds of agents have arrived in Anchorage, downtown hotels are full, and parking lots for rental cars have been cleared. Some agents, in suits and with headphones, are on duty at intersections; others, in civilian clothes, blend in with coffee shop patrons and are on duty in parking lots.
