Ukraine Reduced Russia's GDP By $74 Bln

Ukraine Reduced Russia's GDP By $74 Bln

The General Staff of the AFU revealed the details.

During seven months of 2025, long-range strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces reduced the Russian Federation's production level by 74bn dollars. The oil industry suffered the most from air attacks. Almost half of the deep strikes are at a distance of about 1,000 km.

Thanks to the efforts of the Defense Forces, the GDP of the Russian Federation decreased by 4%, that is, by $74.1 billion, the General Staff of the AFU said in Telegram channel. If the pace of the strikes continues, Russians could lose nearly 10% of the goods and services produced in the country by the end of the year.

The interim results of the strikes on Russian Federation appeared on the pages of the AFU General Staff on the morning of August 15 - the day U.S. President Donald Trump will try to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war. The Ukrainian command detailed the report and showed which military targets the Russians hit the most and at what distance the Defense Forces' weapons hit.

What are the targets of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' depth strikes. It turned out that almost 80% of the targets of air attacks are the oil industry of the Russian Federation. On the infographic of the AFU General Staff we can see that we are talking about Russian refineries (42%) and storage facilities (37%). The rest of the targets hit are infrastructure facilities that help the Russians sell fuel and make money for the war: oil pumping stations (10%) and oil terminals (7%). The command's data shows that the loss of 4% was only due to Ukraine's efforts.

What distance Ukraine's weapons of mass destruction reached. The command's infographic showed that the vast majority of Defense Forces strikes were directed at targets between 500 and 1,000 km away (39%). Almost as many more are targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers. We see that almost 10% of Ukraine's air attacks took place at a distance of more than 1,000 km. The General Staff did not specify what exactly its own means of defeat Ukraine used.

If we focus on the General Staff data that 4% of Russia's GDP is $74.11 billion, then the full GDP of the Russian Federation for 2025, conventionally according to Ukrainian estimates, at the level of $1.8 trillion. Meanwhile, the World Bank reported that this figure for the Russian economy is $2.2 billion for 2024, and even a 1.6% growth in 2025 was projected.
