A third major oil refinery in Russia has shut down after a string of Ukrainian drone strikes that began two weeks ago and affected at least seven refineries, The Moscow Times reports.
Lukoil's Volgograd refinery, one of the largest in southern Russia and among the country's top 10, has stopped receiving oil, Bloomberg reported, citing a source familiar with the situation.
A fire broke out at the 14.8 million-ton-a-year refinery on Thursday after UAV debris landed on the facilities. An oil spill occurred at the refinery and the fire was extinguished for about 19 hours.
On August 11, Rosneft's Saratov refinery, which was damaged in a drone raid that covered 13 Russian regions and Crimea, also halted operations.
On August 2, the Novokuibyshevsk refinery, the most equipped refinery in Rosneft's Samara group, completely stopped producing fuel. Its capacity is 8.3 million tons per year.
On the same day, the Ryazan refinery, which supplies fuel to the Moscow region, shut down about half of its capacity. The 13.8 million-ton-a-year refinery, Rosneft's largest, suffered an accident at two of its three primary refining units. Repairs at the Novokuibyshevsk and Ryazan refineries will take a month, Reuters sources said earlier.
August 7, the Afip refinery in Krasnodar Krai also came under UAV attack, and on August 10, the Lukoil-Ukhtanefteperererabotka refinery in the Komi Republic, almost 2,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. On the night of August 15, the Syzran refinery in Samara Region was attacked.
