What Happened In Alaska?

The negotiations violated all protocols.

The meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin in Alaska lasted just under three hours. The main topic was the end of the war in Ukraine, but the talks were held in violation of all protocols.

What Putin and Trump talked about and whether there is a deal - according to the material RBC-Ukraine.

Preparing for the meeting between Putin and Trump

Trump flew to Alaska on Friday morning (after lunch in Kiev), while Putin began his trip the day before - on Thursday, the dictator traveled to Magadan, and from there to Alaska.

Putin's "entourage" arrived in the United States well in advance. Already in the morning, the network published a video with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in a sweatshirt with the inscription of the USSR, posted photos of Alaskan landscapes and special representative of the dictator Kirill Dmitriev.

Already on the plane, Trump talked to journalists and once again repeated the thesis that he hopes for the success of the meeting. By the way, the day before, Trump still left 25% on the fact that the meeting will be unsuccessful. He also noted that immediately after the conversation with Putin will call Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and European leaders. However, he added that if the meeting is unsuccessful - he will not call.

The Kremlin was not eloquent about the meeting, however, saying that it will last 6-7 hours. Trump, for his part, noted that he would get up and leave if the course of the conversation did not please him.

Putin himself kept quiet about the trip on the eve of the meeting, although the summit was a request he made to Trump through Steve Whitkoff. It was after Trump's special envoy's trip to Moscow that the topic of the meeting began to be "forced". Before that, the likely place where the dictator could meet with Trump was called the summit in China in September. Another option was the Middle East, but there were no specifics on that.

It is worth noting that a few hours before the meeting, while Trump was declaring that he wanted a "sizfire" and would be upset if it was not today, and Russian Patriarch Kirill was holding a prayer service, Russia struck the neighborhoods of the Dnieper River and a market in Sumy. True the Russian Defense Ministry quickly said it was allegedly not them.

First Confusion and Handshake

Around 9 p.m., the media reported that Putin's plane had already landed in Alaska, while Trump's had not yet. Subsequently, Kremlin propagandists said that only the escort plane had landed in Anchorage.

Trump met Putin as announced - with a red carpet. However, the US president arrived in Alaska half an hour earlier than the dictator and waited for him in the plane.

They did not talk to journalists. They got off the airplanes at the same time, walked on the red carpet, shook hands several times - when meeting and on camera. However, journalists did ask Putin one question - whether he would stop killing Ukrainians. The dictator pretended not to hear.

Despite the fact that Putin's car and press secretary Dmitry Peskov were already waiting for him at the plane, the dictator went to the summit site in Trump's car.

Trump and Putin meeting without one-on-one

Even an hour before the start of the planned meeting, it became known about the change of plans. Instead of one-on-one, the meeting will be a three-on-three format - with Trump will be Whitkoff and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Lavrov and the dictator's aide Yuri Ushakov sat down with Putin at this stage of the talks.

There was no media interaction here either, however. The White House showed the beginning of the meeting, and a few seconds later the broadcast ended. As it turned out, journalists asked Putin "uncomfortable" questions, but he pretended not to hear. Therefore, the meeting began without the announced initial briefing.

Fast press conference, no agreement

The three-on-three meeting lasted 2:45 hours, which no one expected. The preliminary timing, which guided the media, envisioned long negotiations. However, at about 2 a.m. Kiev time, Trump and Putin went to the journalists.

It is interesting, according to the rules, Trump, as the host, should have been the first to take the floor, but this time Putin started the press conference. The dictator in his style started with geographical and historical facts. Then he announced "good contacts" with Trump, recalled Whitkoff's visits, and then moved on to Ukraine. Here the dictator once again recalled the "brotherly nation."

"We have the same roots and everything that happens for us is a tragedy and a heavy pain. Our country has a genuine interest in putting an end to it," he said, adding that "all of Russia's legitimate concerns must be addressed."

The dictator also played along with Trump, saying that if the latter were president - there would be no war.

"I think that would have happened, I confirm it," he said.

He also boasted of good contact with Trump, thanks to which "we can reach the end of the conflict in Ukraine." In addition, Putin suggested that Trump's next meeting should be held in Moscow. Trump, however, called the idea interesting, but expressed fears that he might be criticized for it.

The US president spoke briefly. He said he would call Zelensky and NATO leaders and called the meeting productive, but important issues remained unresolved.

"There are a couple of issues, big issues, where we haven't made progress, but there is progress. There is no agreement until there is one," Trump said.

In general, it is very uncharacteristic of Trump to leave a press conference immediately after announcing statements without taking questions from reporters. This detail was noted by American journalists in particular.

The meeting is thus over. There is no agreement.
