Trump spoke with Zelensky and NATO leaders for more than 1.5 hours.
American leader Donald Trump spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after meeting with dictator Vladimir Putin. Trump also called leaders of NATO countries.
This was reported by The Guardian.
White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt told reporters that Trump had a "lengthy conversation" with Ukrainian President Zelensky during his flight to Washington.
As of 9:30, the US president was on the phone with NATO leaders. Therefore, Trump's disembarkation from the plane was delayed as the president was wrapping up the conversation.
Axios journalist Barak Ravid wrote on X (Twitter) that Donald Trump's phone conversation with Zelensky and European allies lasted more than 1.5 hours.
Also, according to Clash Report, journalist Oliver Carroll reports that there is a tentative agreement for an air ceasefire before the leaders' trilateral meeting.
Suspilne reports that Zelensky's phone call with Trump was also attended by European Commission chief von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff.
Kiev confirms the conversation
The Office of the President of Ukraine confirmed to journalists that the conversation between Zelensky and Trump took place and has already ended.
It is noted that it was a long call, first Zelensky and Trump talked, then European leaders joined in.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine again confirms that it is ready to work for peace.
"President Trump informed me about his meeting with the Russian leader, the main points of the conversation. It is important that America's strength influences the development of the situation. We support President Trump's proposal for a trilateral meeting Ukraine - America - Russia. Ukraine emphasizes: key issues can be discussed at the level of leaders, and the trilateral format is suitable for this," said the President of Ukraine.
Also he announced his trip to the United States already on August 18: Zelensky was invited to the White House by Trump.
"All the details on the completion of the killings, on the completion of the war I am going to discuss with President Trump in Washington on Monday. I am grateful for the invitation. It is important that the Europeans are involved at all stages for the sake of credible security with America. We discussed the positive signals from the American side regarding involvement in Ukraine's security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. Thank you to everyone who is helping!" - Zelensky summarized.
What Trump, Zelensky and NATO leaders talked about
In the meantime, journalists began sharing insights into the content of the conversation.
Such as Barak Ravid, a correspondent for CNN, Axios and Channel 12 News, reported that during the conversation, Trump acknowledged that Putin does not want a ceasefire: he insists on a "comprehensive peace agreement" - and Trump seems willing to drop that demand of his as a prerequisite for peace talks to begin.
"President Trump told Zelensky and NATO leaders that Putin does not want a cease-fire and favors a comprehensive agreement to end the war. According to the source, during the conversation Trump said: "I think a quick peace agreement is better than a cease-fire," the journalist wrote.
