Lech Walesa: Poland Should Have Joined The EU And NATO Together With Belarus
Lech Wałęsa

The former Polish president was in secret negotiations on the issue.

Former Polish President Lech Walesa actively supports Ukraine, which has been a victim of Russian aggression. He feels a special responsibility for its further fate. In an interview with journalist "Deutsche Welle" Konstantin Eggert Walesa admitted that he dreamed of Poland joining the EU together with Ukraine and Belarus:

- When I was president, I decided that we would join the EU and NATO together with Ukraine and Belarus. But I left this issue for the second presidential term. I secretly, diplomatically worked with the West, with Ukrainian and Belarusian oppositionists. We told them that during my second term I would raise this issue.

"We will go together. I will announce, and you will quickly mobilize support in the world," we secretly agreed. It's all blown off. Even almost no one knows about it. It was secret. That is why I support Ukraine now, I feel morally responsible for the fact that together we did not enter the EU and NATO, and Poland went ahead.
