Starting September 1, you will need to fill out a special questionnaire.
From September 1, Latvia changes the procedure of entry into the country for citizens originating from third countries, including Belarus.
The new rules, in order to cross the border, a foreigner must fill out a questionnaire in advance on the website eta.gov.lv and get an answer - permission or refusal. Such a norm is enshrined in the amendments to the law on immigration, which the Seimas adopted back in April, reports press.lv.
The questionnaire must be submitted no later than 48 hours before the trip. It must contain the following information:
the purpose of the trip (entry); the planned period and place of stay;
the route of travel;
contact information;
election positions held by the person himself or his relatives;
participation in elections as a candidate;
former or current status of a state or municipal official;
service in the Armed Forces, special services and border guards, customs or internal affairs, justice or foreign affairs (including diplomatic service).
If the information is incomplete or false, the person will face administrative liability.
After the questionnaire is sent, the applicant will receive a reply to the specified e-mail address - confirmation or refusal of entry. It is possible to submit information earlier than two days in advance, but if plans change, the data must be updated. When crossing the country in transit, it is enough to specify only available contacts.
The new requirements apply to all third-country nationals who do not have a residence permit or visa of Latvia and are not citizens of the EU, NATO countries, one of the 38 countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland or Brazil. This means that, in particular, Belarusians and Ukrainians are covered by the law, while, for example, Australians or Israelis are not affected by the changes.
