South Korean troops opened fire.

About three dozen soldiers of the Korean People's Army (DPRK) crossed the demarcation line separating North and South Korea.

The Yonhap agency reported this, citing the military command.

In response, the South Korean side opened warning fire. It is not yet known if there are any casualties from the incident.

According to the United Nations Unified Command (UNC), which is led by the US, a group of about 30 DPRK military personnel crossed the line of demarcation in an area where construction and repair work was being carried out.

The incident occurred amid strained relations between Seoul and Pyongyang. The day before, North Korea accused the South of "provocation," claiming the South Korean military fired on their soldiers who were erecting a barrier to reinforce the border lockdown.
