Germany will continue to support Ukraine, now in its fourth year of defense against Russian aggression. This follows from the message of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (Friedrich Merz), released by him on microblog X on Sunday, August 24, in connection with Ukraine's Independence Day, writes German Wave.
- With great courage Ukrainians and Ukrainians defend themselves against Russian attacks. They are fighting for our free order in Europe and a just peace," the German head of government wrote. - On Independence Day, we stand unwaveringly at their side - today and in the future.

Analogously, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen (Ursula von der Leyen) expressed her congratulations to Ukrainians.

For his part, the German head of state - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier - addressed Ukrainians in a congratulatory message quoted on behalf of him by spokesman Cerstin Gammelin on the X social network:

In honor of Ukraine's Independence Day, the buildings of the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission, the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, and the Latvian Foreign Ministry in Riga were illuminated with the colors of that country's national flag.
