The first statement about Putin's illusions is made.
Today, August 25, German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. Social networks are posting a photo of him at the Central Railway Station.
As Reuters writes, in his first statement after his arrival, Klingbeil emphasized that Germany's support for Ukraine is not waning and Russian leader Vladimir Putin should keep that in mind.
"Putin should have no illusions that Germany's support for Ukraine may be faltering. On the contrary, we remain the second largest supporter of Ukraine in the world and the largest in Europe," Klingbeil said.
At the same time, he assured that Ukraine can continue to rely on Germany.
"A ceasefire is therefore necessary. A lasting peace in Ukraine also requires reliable security guarantees. We are coordinating closely internationally on this issue. Germany will fulfill its commitments," Klingbeil assured.
At the same time, he emphasized that "Russia must finally demonstrate a serious interest in a just peace."
He also added that "the prospects for reconstruction and the prospects for Ukraine's accession to the EU" were already being discussed.
