Ukraine Shows New Missile "Long Neptune" For The First Time

Video Fact.

Ukraine has officially demonstrated for the first time a long-range modification of the R-360 "Neptune" cruise missile, known as "Long Neptune". We are talking about a missile capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers.

This is reported by Defense Express.

The Ukrainian military resource writes that despite the fact that its development became known back in November 2023, no images have not yet been made public. Now for the first time the missile has appeared in a video published on Independence Day on the official account of the state portal "Zbroya".

The recording shows it together with other samples of Ukrainian weapons, although it is not directly signed in the video.

Defense Express notes that the "Long Neptune" can be recognized by the characteristic X-shaped wings, which fold.

At the same time, videos of missile launches in the clip are archival and date back to tests of the Neptune complex in 2018-2020.

The new missile is estimated to be more than 6 meters long (without the booster), which is one and a half meters longer than the first version of the R-360. The central part of the body is also increased in diameter to 50 cm against 38 cm in the basic modification.

So, the new missile is not only longer, but also more massive, which is probably due to the need for more fuel.

Official characteristics of the missile is not yet disclosed. It is only known that it is designed to hit ground targets.

What is known about the Long Neptune missile

Reminder, back in December 2023, there was information that Ukraine was creating new missiles known as "Long Neptunes". The development was classified.

In March this year, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the newest weapon of the AFU, namely the Ukrainian missile "Long Neptune", has successfully passed tests and can reach its target at distances of up to 1,000 kilometers.

"Long Neptune" (Neptune-MD) is a modified version of the Ukrainian anti-ship cruise missile R-360 "Neptune", which in turn was also improved to hit targets at long distances.

This complex was developed by the Luch design bureau to hit enemy warships.

The R-360 Neptun missile weighs 870 kilograms and has a warhead that weighs 150 kilograms. The launch range is up to 280 kilometers.
