It's a real race of innovation.
British publication Sky News has gained exclusive access to one of Ukraine's drone factories to show how the country is using the technology in the war against Russia.
The publication says General Cherry Drones, a company founded by volunteers at the start of the full-scale invasion, has increased production a thousandfold, from 100 drones a month to hundreds of thousands. But according to company spokesman Andrei Lavrenovich, it's still not enough for the front.
"The Russians have a lot of troops, a lot of equipment. Our soldiers tell us every day: we need more, better, faster," he emphasized.

A similar opinion was expressed by President Vladimir Zelensky. He said that Russia has ramped up drone production, while Ukraine cannot scale up due to lack of funding.
The drone factories are kept secret and even moved to avoid Russian strikes. In facilities that outwardly look like ordinary offices, drones are assembled by hand, from quadcopters with explosives to machines that can attack Russian reconnaissance drones. Each device is tested before being sent to the front.
The cost of one Ukrainian drone is about $1,000. At the same time, it can destroy an enemy aircraft that costs hundreds of times more.

Russia, however, is trying to catch up. Propaganda footage from its factories shows hundreds of new Geranium strike drones ready to be launched at Ukraine. The Kremlin is improving Iran's Shaheds, making them faster and deadlier.
In addition, Russia is developing technology for drones controlled by fiber-optic cables that cannot be jammed.
Ukraine is also building similar models, but the Russians started production earlier and got support from China.
Ukrainian engineers say it's a constant race of innovation that is turning the war into a "sci-fi battle of the machines." According to them, already 80 percent of strikes on the frontline are carried out by drones.
As Sky News journalists conclude, whoever gains an advantage in drone warfare in Ukraine will also have it in future global conflicts.
