The regime expects to lift restrictions on Belavia and Belaruskali.
Lukashenko's regime is in talks with US diplomats over Minsk's release of a "large number" of political prisoners. In return, dictator Alexander Lukashenko has asked his American counterpart Donald Trump to ease sanctions. This is reported by the Polish edition Rzeczpospolita, citing sources.
The regime is counting on the removal of sanctions from the airline Belavia and potash fertilizer producer Belaruskali. According to the newspaper's interlocutor, Lukashenko seeks to "break out of isolation" and establish relations with the American president.
On August 15, Lukashenko and Trump spoke by phone. The parties discussed the release of 1,300 political prisoners.
In June, the regime pardoned 14 people. Among them is blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky, who was arrested in 2020. The decision was made after a visit to Minsk by the US president's special envoy on Ukraine Keith Kellogg.
