And threatened to impose serious economic sanctions against Russia.

President Donald Trump at a White House meeting on Aug. 25 again threatened to impose serious economic sanctions against Russia if it does not end its war against Ukraine. He also called "nonsense" statements from the Kremlin about its unwillingness to sign a peace agreement with Vladimir Zelensky allegedly because of the latter's illegitimacy.

Answering a question about the consequences for Russia if the conflict in Ukraine drags on, Trump said he "very much wants to make a deal" and is pondering "very serious measures" to do so.

He said that if a "deal" is not made, "there will not be a world war, but an economic war."

- It will be bad for Russia, and I don't want that," Trump noted.

At the same time, he added that "Zelensky is not blameless either," but "it takes two to tango" and "it is necessary for them (Zelensky and Putin. - Ed.) to meet.

The US president also apparently does not take seriously Moscow's recent statements about its unwillingness to sign a peace agreement with Zelensky allegedly because the Ukrainian leader is illegitimate:

- It doesn't matter what they say. It's all bullshit. Everybody just gets into a pose.

Trump said he expects to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine "very quickly."

In the same meeting, his special envoy Steve Whitkoff said the U.S. plans to resolve Russia's war against Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East by the end of the year.
