The investment volume is about 500 million euros.

Germany's Rheinmetall will open Europe's largest munitions plant near Hannover, Germany.

The Bloomberg writes.

Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, German Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte plan to attend the official opening of the plant in Unterluss near Hannover on Wednesday, August 27.

Rheinmetall began construction of the plant in early 2024 and it was expected to open in late spring or early summer this year.

The ammunition plant began trial operation in the second quarter of 2025 and will have a capacity of up to 350,000 rounds of ammunition a year when fully operational from 2027.

The new plant consists of two buildings: one for the production of 155mm artillery shells and the other for loading, assembly and packaging.

The investment amounts to around €500 million and the facility will create more than 500 jobs. Rheinmetall also plans to produce rocket artillery at the plant from 2026.
