India Says Goodbye To Russian S-400s

New Delhi is developing its own Golden Dome.

India is actively developing its missile defense capabilities, building a multi-layered system that officials and experts compare to the U.S. Golden Dome, writes Newsweek (translated by Charter97.org).

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is developing Sudarshan Chakra, a comprehensive system that combines advanced surveillance, cyber defense and physical measures to protect citizens and critical infrastructure from enemy attacks and terrorist threats.

India has previously imported Russian S-400 systems despite US pressure. Now the country is seeking to strengthen its own defense capabilities, reduce its dependence on foreign weapons and demonstrate the capabilities of domestically produced strategic systems.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, General Anil Chouhan, has called Sudarshan Chakra "India's Iron Dome or Golden Dome." The layered defense is based on the domestic air defense system. The plan calls for the use of different types of weapons, including laser weapons to hit targets at long ranges.

Experts note that India's successes could affect Russian arms supplies: although Russia has pledged to complete delivery of the remaining two S-400 squadrons by 2026-2027, the share of Russian systems in India's import purchases is gradually declining.

Indian Defense Minister Radnath Singh emphasized: "In the coming years, all important facilities will be protected by modern domestically produced technologies."

India is also strengthening its nuclear deterrence, as evidenced by the successful test of an Agni-5 ballistic missile capable of reaching the territories of China and Pakistan.
