No agreements have been signed.
Swiss company Stadler has not confirmed the signing of a contract with the Belarusian Railroad for the supply of 65 trains. The company said that negotiations were indeed held, but no agreement was signed.
A Stadler representative said in a written comment for the publication Office Life.
"BelZhD and Stadler have not signed a contract," the company said in a statement. It also explained that Stadler "realizes that under current conditions neither the supply of trains to Belarus, nor the production of trains in Belarus is allowed."
This message followed the statement of the first deputy head of BelZhD Alexander Khoroshevich. Earlier, he reported about the imminent conclusion of a contract for the production of 30 electric trains and 35 diesel trains at the Stadler Minsk plant in Fanipol.
The representative of Stadler again said that the company "fully complies with the sanctions" imposed on Belarus. As a result of these restrictions, production at the Minsk plant was, according to him, "reduced to a minimum."
After the introduction of sanctions in 2022, the plant in Fanipol, which is 100% owned by the Swiss company, stopped producing rolling stock. According to the latest data, about 200 employees remain at the plant, which performs mechanical work and engineering services "in strict compliance" with the sanctions restrictions.
