The two dictators played out a play.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin staged a performance on a garden bench this week where he, in the company of Alexander Lukashenko, responded to Donald Trump's latest ultimatums. The fact that everything looked like two grandfathers sitting near a village store was probably the purpose of the performance, psychologist Larisa Voloshina said in a commentary "Espresso".
"This is an atypical image for Putin, because for many years, in general, the whole Russian information policy toward Putin was aimed around creating an image of such a macho, such an alpha leader. He constantly exploited this image. (...) And then suddenly he was on a bench with seeds. It looked very revealing," she said.
The psychologist believes that the attempt to create a "peaceful" image for the Russian dictator is logical in a situation where Trump is expressing dissatisfaction with his military efforts in Ukraine.
"It makes sense because now Putin's task is to somehow stop these attacks by Donald Trump on himself, to demonstrate that he is not a rival to Trump, that he recognizes that Trump is the only pope on the planet here, as Mark Rutte said at one time. So Putin is trying to create an image for Trump where he's not going to be a rival for him, dangerous, but a kind of grandfather who's run out of everything, he's so small, he's so clumsy, I mean have pity on me, the orphan. I think that this is exactly the message to Trump, this is an attempt to be safe for him," Voloshina believes.
