Bavarian Premier Urged To Cancel Social Benefits For Ukrainians

Because of social benefits, many Ukrainians do not want to get a job in Germany.

German Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder has called for the abolition of the "bürgergeld" (Bürgergeld - money for citizens) social assistance payment to Ukrainian refugees, which is given to those looking for work or those whose income is not enough to support themselves.

He said this on air on the television channel ZDF.

Söder said measures should be taken to ensure that "Ukrainians no longer receive the Bürgergeld."

He believes that because of social benefits, many Ukrainians do not want to get a job in Germany.

"That's why we have so few workers from Ukraine, although they have a good education," the Bavarian prime minister said.

The channel also cites data according to which in May 2025 the employment rate of Ukrainian citizens in Germany was 34.9% and is constantly growing.
