Rosneft's Novokuibyshevsk refinery has been out of operation since August 2.
Rosneft's Novokuibyshevsk refinery halted primary oil refining from August 2 after an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Reuters reported, citing two industry sources.
Russia's major refineries have not been subjected to UAV attacks since March 2025.
Rosneft did not promptly provide a comment to Reuters' request.
Sources said the attack damaged the atmospheric (main) column of the AVT-11 primary oil processing unit of the Novokuibyshevsk refinery.
One of the videos posted on social media also shows a fire on the atmospheric column of AVT-11.
The refinery has two units: AVT-11 with a capacity of 18.900 tons per day and AVT-9 with a capacity of 4,700 tons per day.
The refinery planned to shut down AVT-9 for overhaul from early August to early September.
Sources estimate that recently the Novokuibyshevsk refinery has been processing oil feedstock at about 18,000 tons per day.
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery processed 5.74 million tons of oil feedstock in 2024, produced 1.10 million tons of motor gasoline, 1.64 million tons of diesel fuel and 1.27 million tons of fuel oil, according to industry sources.
The Novokuibyshevsk refinery, the best-equipped in the Samara-based Rosneft group, has an annual capacity of 8.3 million tons of oil.
