The Netherlands will send €500m in military aid to Ukraine under the Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, which provides for the purchase of US weapons for the Ukrainian army at the expense of NATO countries. According to the press service of the Dutch Ministry of Defense, the country has become the first NATO member state to fully fund the aid package under this initiative.
According to the alliance's website, the PURL program involves regular deliveries of military equipment and ammunition identified by Ukraine as a priority. Each such package is valued at about €500 million and includes weapons that the United States is able to provide in much larger quantities compared to European countries and Canada.
The assistance provided under PURL "does not replace but complements the current support to Ukraine," the Dutch Defense Ministry stressed. The first two shipments of weapons were delivered already in July, with the frequency of deliveries every two to three weeks.
