Trump Voters See Russia As A Threat And Support Sanctions Against It
Donald Trump

Survey.

A majority of U.S. President Donald Trump's voters agree on the need for a tough course against Russia because of its unwillingness to seriously negotiate peace in Ukraine.

A poll by polling company TargetPoint commissioned by The Vandenberg Coalition, a nonpartisan conservative organization; it was highlighted by Ukraine's ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova.

The poll shows that Trump voters "generally support the president's 'peace through strength' doctrine, believe that a strong America is a safe America, and want Russia and other U.S. adversaries to pay for their aggression," Markarova said.

Among other things, 87% of the president's supporters surveyed identified Russia as a threat to American security, and 74% agreed that there is at least some likelihood that Russia will invade other countries.

"In addition, 88% of respondents are at least 'moderately concerned' about cooperation between Russia, China, Iran and North Korea, with 65% expressing that they are very concerned or extremely concerned," the ambassador said.

Also, 57% of respondents blame Vladimir Putin for the lack of peaceful progress in Ukraine, and 76% support imposing sanctions on Russian oil exports.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to impose secondary duties on buyers of Russian oil.

He has also been increasingly outspoken in expressing frustration with Putin and Russia's actions.
