It's about a thousand years old.

On August 4, archaeologists excavating the Small settlement on the Menka River came across a unique artifact - a stone casting mold for trapezoidal pendants about a thousand years old.

According to Andrei Voytekhovich of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences, the discovered mold changes previous ideas about jewelry of the X-XI centuries, which were considered imported.

"Those very trapezoidal pendants, which were considered imported, could have been made here, in Mensk," said the head of the excavations Andrei Voytekhovich.

Scientists plan to study the microparticles on the form to determine with what metals worked ancient craftsmen.

The same settlement found a fragment of amphora with a runic inscription XI-XII centuries. It could have been carved by the owner of the vessel - a Scandinavian, who transported wine from the Black Sea region in the amphora.

Andrei Voytekhovich notes that such finds are unique not only for Menka, but also for Belarus as a whole.
